Sergey Yulievich Witte’s Views on the Transformation of the Political System of the Russian Empire During the First Russian Revolution of 1905–1907

Abstract

The article analyzes the views of Sergei Yulievich Witte regarding the possibility and the necessity of transforming the political basis of the state power in the Russian Empire during the first Russian Revolution of 1905–1907. The author draws the conclusion that Witte, as a politician, went through a difficult path of overcoming monarchical views and realizing the need to introduce a number of political freedoms and establish the legislative parliament in the Russian Empire.
